The Magic Valley 911 Memorial, an annual event that honors the victims and heroes of September 11, 2001, is set to take place in 2024. This remarkable tribute, organized by the nonprofit Magic Valley 911, brings together thousands of people from around the world to remember, reflect, and renew their sense of unity and patriotism.
The Patriot: A Symbol of American Resilience
At the heart of the event is “The Patriot,” one of the world’s largest flying flags. This awe-inspiring symbol of American pride measures an impressive 11,500 square feet and weighs 500 pounds. The unveiling of this massive flag is a breathtaking spectacle that requires the coordinated efforts of 40 to 50 volunteers.
A Week of Remembrance and Unity
The Magic Valley 911 Memorial is not just a one-day event, but a week-long series of activities designed to bring the community together:
- Flag Reveal (September 6): The Patriot will make its first public appearance at the Twin Falls High School homecoming game.
- Cemetery Clean Up (September 9, 5-8PM): A service project at Sunset Memorial Cemetery, demonstrating the community’s commitment to service.
- Flag Walk (September 10, 5-8PM): In collaboration with Bands on the Bridge, a suicide awareness initiative, participants will walk across the bridge.
- Main Memorial Event (September 11, 6PM): The centerpiece of the week, featuring the dramatic unfurling of The Patriot, accompanied by a patriotic celebration.
- Veteran Flag Cruise (September 13, 10AM-5PM): AWOL Adventures will offer free boat rides for veterans, extending the celebration of service and sacrifice.
